The earth is over-populated. There is not enough wealth to provide the luxury of social and economic activity to everyone. At this moment the place where you are born decides if you’ve access to wealth or not. You could say that’s not really fair. It’s not real democracy.
In “Chosen” you are going to make it fair and democratic. In a democratic process the audience can decide who is able to participate in modern society and who is not. The performance is a ‘game’ in which the audience decides who can be part of the chosen ones and who cannot.
The selection process in Chosen is an adapted version of a performance “de Uitverkorenen” which I performed at Theater de NWE Vorst in Tilburg, The Netherlands in 2010. Every performance will be different because a lot will depend on the contenders and there distinct point of view. The materials used are mainly the spectators themselves. Every performance, 20 people join the selection process. The 12 people not being selected receive a print out, the 8 chosen get a glass of champagne.
