I will present a short video called “Head Room.” I come from a typical American family meaning that we have all moved multiple times (I’ve moved about 25 times).  I interviewed different family members asking them to describe their favorite room in one of these places. Through my animations I recreate these rooms in an abstract manner questioning how we visualize place and how these visualizations are often interpreted as “reality”, for example, with google maps, which I also used to generate footage. Through the process of working on the video I wondered: If we have no physical structures to hold our memories, how do we remember? How do we share these memories of “home” with future generations? And how does what we remember and what we “present” gloss over what truly makes up our lived in environments?

Head room has its “world premiere” at Tracing Mobility Platform.
